Me and Gene  about 1940--1942, picture would have been taken Wyoming, IL.
Dad and me, about 1946-1949 picture was taken on our farm just north of Princeton, IL.
the one with the long lane to the county gravel road.

Dad was one of the best rifle shots in the state, he scorned the use of a rest or telescope sight.  With a 22 rifle I have watched him drive nails into wood boards,
one time with a pump 25-20 I watched him knock a goose out of the air. At the local carnivals he would be barred from the shooting gallery's.
Honest as the day was long, didn't drink or smoke,  would give you the shirt off your back if you needed it.
He was a avid fox hunter and we always had from six to a dozen fox hounds. To go out at night and listen to the hounds chasing a fox was one of Dads greatest hobbies.
Dad worked hard all his life as a sawmill man and at times he tried hard to be a farmer.
He was killed in a accident way before his time.

Attended this school when we lived north of Tiskilwa along creek, quite school when I was 15. Big Mistake?

1945 3rd grade class, The Nye School was a one room school about 10 miles from Tiskilwa, IL. It was a tad over a mile to school, most of the time I had to walk, no school buses in those days and no fat kids!
